This will be my Mother's Day
gift to you, Mom. I love you!
I shall resume posting to this blog two days hence, this
Saturday (4/13).
Perfect Moment:
Perfect Moment:
I have begun a small kitchen garden in my south facing
bay window. In the photo below, you can see I've planted part of my garden in a repurposed fountain. It is mostly grown from
scraps (the ends of celery, onions and lettuce) but I added basil, cilantro and
thyme seeds recently (in the top 3 tiers of the fountain). All three of my
little herb-babies are sending up tiny green stems! I have, in general, a brown thumb, so each
germinated greenling is a joy and a delight!
Ten Strange Facts About Me:
Yes, I’m an odd duck. Especially so since I’m not a duck. I am peculiar, quirky and eccentric. Aren’t we all? That’s part of what makes life a fascinating adventure!

Authors
are notorious for being even more unusual, bizarre, non-conforming and
out-of-the-ordinary than your typical strange bird and yet, we are also just
like everyone else. So, to prove that I
am both weird and entirely normal, here are some tidbits about me.
1- I don't drink coffee. The only caffeine I ingest is from chocolate, the occasional soda and the very rare cup of green or black tea.
There's some concern that this renders me an unfit author.
2- I drink water while I write. A LOT OF WATER. Type, type, sip, sip, type, type, contemplate, sip, type.
This leads to a lot of bathroom breaks.
3- Writing drains & exhausts me (or maybe it's all the water?) and my most productive writing days contain at least one nap.
4- Writing empties my word bank. The more words I write, the less chatty I am.
5- I LOVE microphones. Actually, I dig speechifying in general, but microphones force large groups of people to listen to me and they transform my average-sized voice into A THING OF GREAT POWER!
6- I'm an introvert and socializing in groups of people is painful and awkward for me.
7- I didn't get a learner's permit or ever bother to try learning to drive until I was 26 or 27. I did it then because it was a job requirement.
8- My New Year's resolution for 2013 was to stop using paper towels. The switch to cloth napkins, towels, spill absorbers, snot rags, etc. has been far easier than I expected.
9- I don't believe in having "best friends" because I don't think friendship is a competition. I prefer to refer to some people (I'm lucky to include my parents and husband in this group) as "close friends".
10- I don’t listen to music while I write. I am intrigued by the notion of having a
playlist for a work of fiction and I sometimes wish I could pull it off, but I
cannot. It’s too distracting. I also can’t talk to anyone, even about
important things, when there’s music, radio or television playing in the same
room. I think I have an audio filtering
problem. Probably has something to do
with growing up in the deep silences of the Alaskan wilderness.
I hope you have a whole beauteous bunch of perfect
moments between now and my next post on Saturday!
I often say that I'm an odd duck as well. And #6, that's me in a nutshell, too. :)
